As spring flowering plants come to the end of their season, and warmer and frost free nights are now around the corner, now is a good time to remove them and prepare for summer bedding plants to go in. Don’t forget to place them in the compost bin. Turn over the soil, and remove any weeds that have sprung up, and add a small amount of organic fertiliser. Hold off planting them until the threat of frost has subsided.
Remember to water your containers and hanging baskets daily now, and using a high potash feed will promote a beautiful flower display. Also deadhead any spent flowers.
Those of you ‘growing your own’ potatoes, remember to mound up some soil around your potato shoots, this encourages further tubers to be produced further along the stem, it also stops any potatoes near the surface from becoming green (which are poisonous).
