Here are a few tips on how to ensure your garden can get by if a hosepipe ban is introduced this summer:

Lawns – Make sure you leave your grass longer than normal, by doing this it will create a microclimate and stop the moisture from evaporating out of the soil. Cutting the grass too short will cause it to become distressed and will go brown sooner.

Watering – When using your watering can try and water your plants directly at the roots, and water either early in the morning or late evening, this will stop the water from evaporating at the height of the day. Also don’t forget you can use grey water (bath water), however don’t be tempted to use kitchen waste water as this will contain oil and greases. Also consider water butts and seep-hose irrigation systems.
